Evaluation: What have you learnt about new technologies from the process of creating this product?

For my first introductory double page, I composed it upon photoshop. I first of all edited the picture to make it lighter by using the brightness tool and saturation to contrast the background and pick up the colours in the image and make them bolder. Then I changed the shape of the image to fit the shape of the page.

Afterwards I added the name of the band in the same font and colour as on the front with the headline about the article. I got this font from 1001 and I think it reflects the overall genre and style of the magazine.

I added a short synopsis of the band which will give the audience an insight into what the article is about and makes them want to read more about the article.

I then added the information about the band and the photographer which I noticed my style model had done. This gave the reader and insight into who the people in the band were called and who the author and photographer were.

Throughout my magazine I have continued the horizontal line with the page number and website details under it. I continued this on this page but contrasted the colours as the background is darker so I used a white font.

Evaluation: What have you learnt about new technologies from the process of creating this product?

For my second double page, i used indesign which at first glance seemed to be a lot harder than photoshop. There were many things that were different about indesign as it allowed you to put text into columns like a newspaper would do. I used this for my article as the style model that i based my magazine off had columns of four to present their text. Overall i do prefer photoshop due to it having a range of tools wheres i have not yet used all of those available on indesign.

Evaluation: What do you feel like you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

At the start of the year I created a school which I used for my preliminary task.
From this I have developed more skills on photoshop and indesign. I have found new fonts that are not found on photoshop and can create different styles and genre to the magazine itself. The use of brightening and contrasting an image if you want a figure to stand out from the background. I have also learned how to display subtitles around the main image which allows the audience to still see the background but the writing makes your eyes focus upon the foreground.
Since my preliminary task, I have learned how to take better quality photographs which don't reflect light off the models face and don't create a shadow behind them. I have also worked upon my presentation and improved the way of presenting my writing and images to fit the genre of my magazine.
For my preliminary task, I didn't carry out any target audience research and based it upon a niche audience of students between the age of 11 and 18 who are at school. Because I did not produce a questionnaire, I made assumptions as to what people would want to see in the magazine. For my final product I produced questionnaires for the target audience and research into different features that my audience would be interested in so that it would attract and appeal to them into buying the magazine. From my research I was able to identify media conventions that would appeal to the target audience and would increase the size of my audience by basing it upon the genre of my music.

Evaluation: What have you learnt in the progression from preliminary work to the full product?

I have learnt about the importance of audience feedback as attracting the target audience is an important part of promoting the magazine. It allows you to find out what the target audience would be interested in and what they would want to read about. Market research allows you to access knowledge about the style model and the promotion it does to increases the sales.

Evaluation: How did my second double page attract/address the audience?

Evaluation: How did my first double page attract/address the audience?

Evaluation: How did my contents page attract/address the audience?

For my contents page, I have followed Naomi Wold's theory due to using females that are attractive to attract my target audience. Due to the society that were are in, appearance is seen as an important thing to have so using someone who is attractive to promote a magazine works to the magazine advantage. As I have used 3 attractive people it attracts my target audience to look up and aspire to be like them. Trevor Millum's theory links to the way in which men are portrayed by the media to attract female audiences. For my contents page I have used multiple different facial expressions that are listed by Millum to attract my target audience as it is a addressed at mostly a female audience so using attractive men to promote the magazine helps to appeal to the audience.

Evaluation: How did my front cover attract/address the audience?

My target audience is typically females of the 18-24, they are attracted to my magazine due to their being females upon the front cover which are seen as a role model for women as they will want to look up to them and be like them physically and socially. The male is shown on the front cover which entices females as it could be someone that they find attractive or seen as finding personal identity like the Bulmler and Katz theory as it allows them to aspire to be like the women and find a man like that.

Trevor Millum

Trevor Millum study's the facial expressions of females, but unlike Marjorie Ferguson he also study's males faces as well. The categories that he has set help promote the magazine due to the expressions of a male catching the eyes of a female. To promote the magazine with a male upon it, the male needs to be seen in a sexualised manor and made to look eye catching for women. For my magazine I used a male model so that I could attract the attention of young females who are attracted to men and the use of his facial expressions linked to the theory of Trevor Millum.

Evaluation: How did I attract/address the audience?

I was able to attract my audience due to the research I had done which allowed me to choose the right storylines and features that will interest my target audience. From my questionannaire that I asked to the target audience, I was able to get an insight into what people would want to see and supply them with that information. The genre of my magazine is what the target audience enjoyed which helps promote the magazine but also people who read the magazine may wish to dress like the artists or be like them in a mental and behavioural manor.

Evaluation: How did my magazine page attract/address the audience?

The Uses and Gratifications that apply to my magazine are the theory of Blumler and Katz that expresses personal identity, personal relationships, diversion and surveillance. My magazine offers the target audience an escape from their everyday life and a time to relax and enjoy their part of the day as the survey that I asked to my target audience said that they would enjoy reading about interviews from their favourite band or artist so this would attract them into wanting to read my magazine. It also allows the audience to contact other people from around the world with the same interest and have a virtual friendship. This expands the name of the magazine across the world and could cause the magazine to be a worldwide organisation. By the use of social media and a message board on the website, it could spread to a large amount of people and improve the personal relationship of the magazine. It can also boost the number of people who are subscribed to the magazine as they can receive exclusive gifts from the magazine.

Evaluation: How did my magazine page attract/address the audience?

Having a website for my magazine encourages the personal relationship between people who have an interest in the magazine. By having a website it allows people to talk about their interests from around the world on a message board but also entitles them into receiving exclusive material if they subscribe to the newsletter, access to new music and interviews from their favourite bands, preview of new music videos days earlier than everyone else would be able to see them, entitled to competitions. This promotes the magazine itself as it allows the target audience to have items that you wouldn't get if you didn't buy the magazine.
